Shooting ‘A Curious Irish Adventure’ for Gunpowder Irish Gin
To mark Gunpowder Irish Gin’s bold leap into the U.S. market, Butterfly Cannon created A Curious Irish Adventure — a campaign as spirited and distinctive as the gin itself. At the heart of this launch was a striking suite of photography, captured by drinks photographer Rob Lawson, designed to bring the story to life in vivid, mouth-watering detail.
From the first frame, the shoot was all about storytelling. We weren’t just photographing a bottle — we were capturing a journey. Bold blues, dramatic lighting, and a studio filled with exotic botanicals like meadowsweet, orris root, and the legendary gunpowder tea helped root the visuals in real places and flavour experiences.
Each element was styled to evoke the brand’s adventurous spirit and global influences, with the hero bottle always bathed in that signature Gunpowder blue. The lighting was crisp, clear, and purposeful — echoing the refreshing clarity of a perfectly poured Gunpowder & Tonic.Behind the camera, it was all about bringing the craft back into comms.
Working closely with Rob and the set design team, every detail was meticulously fine-tuned — from glassware placement to the way light refracted through the liquid. It was a careful balance of brand storytelling and visual punch; the kind of craft that elevates a campaign from good to unforgettable.
